Receive First student

Noelia gives private lessons in her home in Matagalpa, Nicaragua. Her first student is a Dutch boy.

February, 2005

Beginnings: Matagalpa Spanish Language School

The first name was Escuela de Español Matagalpa. First premises was rented in the city center next to Matagalpa Tours.

2006

Alliance with Telares Indígenas Nicaragua

Alliance with the group of women weavers from the indigenous community of El Chile. Opening of an arts and crafts store with the aim of promoting local handicrafts.

2009

Changes! A new name and interdependence! Escuela de Español Colibrí

Colibrí Spanish School and Matagalpa Tours separate administration and continue to share the physical space.

2010

Environmental Education Project PEA

The Dutch embassy in Nicaragua finances an environmental education project developed by Colibrí Spanish School and Matagalpa Tours workers.

2011

Colibrí with a feminist identity

Colibrí takes a feminist philosophy and allocates its resources to support actions in favor of women’s rights and sexual diversity.

2012

Property purchase

Investment in the purchase of land in the Cerro Apante Nature Reserve.

2014

Sociocracy and the Philosophy of the Common Good

Escuela de español Colibrí applies the principles of Sociocracy and the Common Good to its internal functioning.

2014

Colibrí Transformational Travel

Development of educational tourism for groups of university students. The profits from these trips were invested in the construction of Casa de Colibrí in 2016.

2016

ATTA – Adventure Angels Scholarchip

The Adventure Angels, a group of women entrepreneurs who pursue the spirit of adventure, awarded Noelia a scholarship to participate in the ATTA Summit in Alaska.

2016

Construction of new facilities

Construction of the ecological farm Colibrí (now Agualí) begins.

November, 2017

Inauguration of Casa de Colibríes

Surrounded by nature we set ourselves to the task of integrating care for nature into our daily actions. Actions such as ‘from the garden to the table’, healthy food, conscious breathing and yoga sessions, etc. were part of everyday life at Casa de Colibríes.

May, 2018

Closure of Colibrí

As a result of the crisis in Nicaragua in 2018, Colibrí closes. Casa de Colibrí becomes part of the Agualí Biological Station project.

September, 2018

To Costa Rica

Noelia moves with her family to Costa Rica. For two years she devoted herself to psychology and the performing arts. During this time she created the monologue ‘Voces de un Corazón’.

February, 2021

Kolibrie in the Netherlands

Noelia studies at the Instituto Cervantes, and officially registers Kolibrie in the Netherlands.

February, 2023

Colibrí Amor. Reopening of Colibrí

Noelia decides to offer Spanish classes in Costa Rica (part of the year) and to open the Colibrí Spanish School in Matagalpa Nicaragua in conjunction with the Agualí Environmental Education Project.
